The BFR Blog team wishes all of our readers a happy Independence Day! We hope that you are all enjoying barbecues, fireworks and parades, and otherwise celebrating 235 years of American tradition, government, and achievement. Let’s spare a thought for some of the restructuring professionals whose hot dogs are going uneaten as they assist clients facing financial distress this holiday weekend. Judging by what has happened in the past decade, there is no doubt that there are a few restructuring professionals who won’t get to enjoy the long weekend as much as the rest of us! From 2001 to 2010, almost 1,500 chapter 11 cases were filed in the week following Independence Day! That’s a lot of food being left in the picnic basket! As you’ll see below, we’ve done an in-depth statistical analysis to put this data in to better context for you. Unsurprisingly, it looks like restructuring professionals in 2009 left the biggest bit of hotdog on the grill! Bon appetit!
